COURSE MATERIALS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Have a question about your course materials/textbooks? We're here to help!
GETTING YOUR COURSE MATERIALS/TEXTBOOKS
You can order your books/course materials online by accessing your booklist. Once there, you can add any in-stock items to your cart, and checkout like any other online transaction. Click here for more info on booklists and online ordering.
You can buy your materials at the Bronco Shop in the Student Union Building. Please note that a printed booklist is required to buy your books in person. Click here for more info on booklists.
The Bronco Shop offers a price comparison service with other retailers around the web, which is visible on your booklist, as a service to students. Please note that the Bronco Shop is not affiliated with these retailers, and items bought from them are subject to that retailer's terms of sale.
Your personalized booklist will list all requested course materials for the classes you're currently enrolled in. These items will be listed under several categories:
- REQUIRED: If an item is listed as "required", that means the instructor has indicated this is a required text for the course.
- ALT REQUIRED: If two or more items are listed as "Alt Required", then you only need one of them, but not both. For example, you may see the same item listed as an ebook, as well as a hardback book. You can choose which version you prefer.
- OPTIONAL: Often a viable replacement for a physical book. Optional items are most commonly ebooks that can be used in place of a physical version.
- RECOMMENDED: These items are not required for the course, but are helpful resources to have.
- IA: "IA" or "Inclusive Access" indicates the text is part of the Inclusive Access program.
COURSE MATERIAL/TEXTBOOK AVAILABILITY
Our Course Materials Department works to ensure students have the course materials they need at the start of the semester. If an item on your booklist is listed as "out of stock", it may still be on order to the Bronco Shop, or it could have already sold out. Sometimes, enrollment of a course can expand, making textbook availability limited. Check your booklist regularly in the weeks leading up to the semester start to ensure you get the items you need.
We recommend ordering your books as soon as possible. However, due to availability from textbook wholesalers, some titles can arrive in stock very close to the start of the semester. If a book appears out of stock a few weeks before the semester start, keep checking your booklist - it may arrive in stock days before classes begin.
If your booklist has shown a title to be out of stock and hasn't updated as the semester nears, you can contact the Course Materials Department at textbookoffice@boisestate.edu
Several reasons could contribute to a title not being carried by the Bronco Shop. Some titles have limited availability on the market, and we are unable to bring in large quantities of said title. Sometimes, enrollment of a class exceeds the enrollment cap, and thus exceeds the quantity of books ordered. While not common, occasionally an instructor does not submit an adoption to the Bronco Shop for a specific title, and thus the title is never ordered in.
RETURNS and SUBSTITUTIONS
Most course materials are eligible for refunds up until the refund deadline that semester, provided they are unopened/in the same condition they were purchased in. View our course materials return page for more information.
The Bronco Shop will substitute a new copy for a used copy or vice-versa only if the new/used copy is out of stock. The web order will be automatically adjusted to reflect the price of the new title. You can opt-out of substitutions by writing "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" in the comment field when you are checking out your order. If you opt out of substitutions and the book is out of stock in new/used, the book will be removed from your order and you will not be charged for it.
INCLUSIVE ACCESS, SCHOLARSHIPS, and OTHER
Inclusive Access is a program that courses can enroll in which automatically provides all course materials to students electronically, often at a discounted or highly competitive rate. Course materials are delivered to students through their student email, Canvas, or Blackboard, at the start of the semester. Students have the ability to opt-out of the program up until the opt-out deadline, but then have to source their materials elsewhere. See our Inclusive Access info page for more info including opt-out deadlines.
If you see a charge for an "ebook" or "e-textbook" in your Student Financial Center, this means one or more of your courses are enrolled in Inclusive Access. The fee you see is for your Inclusive Access course materials. You can opt out of the IA program up until the opt-out deadline, and this fee will be removed from your account, but you will be responsible for sourcing the course materials elsewhere. See our Inclusive Access info page for more info including opt-out deadlines .
There are several scholarships which are eligible to use for course materials at the Bronco Shop. See our Authorized Scholarships pages for more information on eligible scholarships.
